Law Roach: Biography

Law Roach is an American celebrity stylist, fashion creative and image architect known for creating distinctive red-carpet looks for some of the world’s most recognisable entertainers.

Early Life

Law Roach was born on 20 July 1978 and grew up on the South Side of Chicago. He did not enter the fashion industry through the traditional route of working for a major fashion house.

Instead, he developed his career through vintage fashion, eventually becoming known for finding rare and unusual pieces and combining historic garments with contemporary fashion.

From Vintage Dealer to Stylist

Roach began his professional fashion career as a vintage dealer and opened his own boutique in Chicago. His knowledge of fashion history and his eye for unusual clothing helped him build relationships within the entertainment industry.

He eventually moved into celebrity styling and became particularly well known for his creative partnership with actress Zendaya.

Zendaya

Roach began working with Zendaya when she was a teenager. Together, they developed a highly distinctive approach to red-carpet dressing.

Rather than simply selecting individual outfits, Roach and Zendaya often treated major appearances as part of a larger visual concept. Their looks have drawn inspiration from fashion history, film, architecture and other cultural references.

Their partnership became one of the most recognisable celebrity-stylist collaborations in contemporary fashion.

Celebrity Styling

Roach has worked with numerous major entertainers, including Céline Dion, Ariana Grande, Kerry Washington, Tiffany Haddish and Hunter Schafer.

In 2022, Roach became the first recipient of the CFDA’s Stylist Award.

Roach has also expanded his career into television. He appeared as a judge on Legendary and has worked on programmes including RuPaul’s Drag Race and Project Runway.

Retirement and New Projects

In 2023, Roach announced that he was retiring from celebrity styling. Despite the announcement, he continued working creatively and maintained his long-standing relationship with Zendaya.

He has since expanded into education, publishing and other creative projects. His book, How to Build a Fashion Icon, explores his approach to fashion and image-making.

In 2026, Roach also began working with Kim Kardashian, adding another major celebrity collaboration to his career.
