Former Manchester United manager José Mourinho has been unveiled as a brand ambassador for Paddy Power, fronting the bookmaker’s Paddy Power Games ad campaign and starring in a TV commercial.

The nationwide campaign co-developed by creative advertising agency VVCP London sees a ‘humble Mourinho’ detail to audiences advice on ’what it takes to be special’ – spoofing the most controversial moments of Mourinho’s career.


The advert, which you can watch below, features Mourinho explaining how it’s not easy being special.

Michelle Spillane, Paddy Power’s Marketing Director, commented, “José Mourinho knows a thing or two about being special, so who better to front our Daily Jackpot campaign? A household name and one of the most successful managers in football history, it was glorious to work with Jose, and deliver a campaign that has real stand-out for the category.”

Mourinho has been keeping himself busy in the months since leaving United, of course, and most recently he was announced as a Sky Sports pundit for the 2019/20 season.

So far he’s made studio appearances for two Chelsea games: the 4-0 defeat to United on the opening weekend and Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Liverpool.

Fans have loved watching and listening to Mourinho critique games and deliver some managerial nuggets of wisdom, but it’s just not the same as him being on the touchline.
