Tracy Edwards began her sailing career in 1979. In 1990 she put together and skippered Maiden, the first all female crew in the Whitbread Round the World Race. Maiden won two legs and came second overall in her class, the best result for a British boat since 1977. In 1991 she became the first woman to be awarded the Yachtswoman of the Year trophy which was followed by the MBE. Tracy wrote a book about her experiences on Maiden and the BBC made a documentary about the challenge.Tracy continues to sail and has set up a company to run al aspects of her challenges and business and in 1997 it expanded to develop seminars and training programes specifically for companies to benefit from teamwork and leadership.Tracy is now a sought after motivational speaker drawing on her vast experience to demonstrate the advantages of good teamwork and motivation.
