Internationally famous soul/ pop vocalist Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock in Brownsville, TN on November 26, 1939 and was raised in rural Nutbush, TN by her grandmother. Tina Turner joined Ike Turner's band as the singer in the late 1950s, and after touring and performing together they eventually married. Their hot stage act was very successful in the U.K. and the U.S. and they released several records, with their biggest hit, "Proud Mary," coming in 1970. Tina left Ike in 1976 and went solo. In 1984 she released Private Dancer, which featured a number one hit ("What's Love Got to Do With It?") and won Grammies for Record of the Year, Female Pop Performance and Female Rock Vocal of the Year. She continued to record and tour throughout the 1990s, one of the most successful stage acts in the world.
