After Dinner Speakers: Tim Clark, Bill Giles, Alexei Sayle
A bafflingly popular act, Clark's material just doesn't have the strength, depth or humour to sustain attention for any great length of time.
He's very experienced, and his delivery and manner have been honed to skillful effect, which goes a long way to disguising the lack of substance at the heart of his act. But it also perhaps explains why he's more often booked as a compere than a headliner.
While 90 per cent of his act is comedy by numbers - you can tick off the cliches as you go along - there are glimmers of more original thinking. But sadly too few to demand interest.
Clark's a hit with those seeking the easy laugh, but those looking for something meatier would be best advised to look elsewhere.
