After Dinner Speakers: The Rt.Hon Michael MP Heseltine, Alice Cooper, Karren Brady
Once a stalwart of Margaret Thatcher’s early government, Michael Heseltine was to become her nemesis. Starting with his sensational resignation as Defence Secretary in 1985 over the Westland Affair, to his standing against her in the leadership election that saw her ousted for John Major.
A self-made millionaire, Mr Heseltine built up his publishing business to become one of Britains biggest magazine owners.
His political career has been punctuated with episodes of controversy including the brandishing of the mace in parliament in 1976 and his propaganda campaign against CND following the Falklands War.
Michael Heseltines ambition to become Prime Minister was finally thwarted by the election of John Major in 1991 and a heart attack in Venice in 1993. He remains however an independent mind and articulate speaker on contemporary British political issues.
