After Dinner Speakers: The Nualas, Tina Knight, Homer Hickam

The Nualas were formed in a Dublin kitchen in May 1995, when Susan Collins, Anne Gildea and Tara Flynn got together over the left- overs at a party. Their mutual love of food, comedy and singing inspired them to form a trio and book their first ten-minute slot at Dublin's famous club 'The Comedy Cellar'. They brought the house down and as they crawled out of the comedy rubble that night they! They went to the Edinburgh fringe festival. They slept on floors, and trawled the streets on foot guitar in hand playing gigs wherever there was a stage and a few students. They got encores at all their performances and eventually they were offered a full run at The Gilded Balloon comedy venue the following year. They returned to Dublin to play in the first fringe theatre festival where their show 'The Nualas Christmas Special' was a sell-out. It transferred to the prestigious 'Andrews Lane Theatre' for a further three weeks. At the end of that year they won The Comedy Cellar Best Comedy Act of the Year Award. Since then they've completed four sell-out runs at The Edinburgh festival, a tour of Scotland and several major tours of Ireland. They have performed as far a field as Adelaide and Melbourne and they headlined the first Singapore Comedy Festival in 1998. In addition they wrote and performed a six-part comedy series for BBC Radio 4 and a one-off New Year's Eve Special. Their numerous Television appearances include R.T.E's 'Late Late Show', an extended set on BBC's 'The Stand-up Show', and Singapore T.V's 'Tonight with Gurmit'. In 1999 The Nualas completed two hugely successful month long runs at London's Drill Hall Theatre where they received outstanding reviews. During the summer their four-week run of 'The Big Shiny Dress Show’ at Dublin's Tivoli Theatre was due to popular demand extended to nine weeks. They are now delighted to be bringing, (with a new line-up including Australian-born Josie O'Reilly) their Big Shiny Dress extravaganza, Live in London, to The Lyric, Hammersmith. They hope you have a mighty time at this lovely show.
