Rt. Hon Kenneth Clarke was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1963 and worked as a barrister before becoming the Conservative MP for Rushcliffe in 1970 where he has served ever since. He became a QC in 1980. During his political career he has held varied posts from his beginnings as opposition spokesman for Social Services through to Home Secretary between ’92 and ’93 and Chancellor of the Exchequer for the long term of ’93-97. In 1997 he was a challenger for the Conservative Party leadership. He currently holds several non-executive directorships and chairman posts including for UniChem and the Foreign and Colonial Investment Trust.
