After Dinner Speakers: Rabbi Lionel Blue, Howard Davis, Sue Townsend
Well known as a writer and broadcaster, Rabbi Lionel Blue read history at Oxford and Semitics at London University before being ordained as a Rabbi in 1960. Between 1960 and 1963 he was the minister of the settlement Synagogue and Middlesex New Synagogue. He then became the european director of the World Union for progressive judaism and in 1967 took up his present position as the lecturer at Leo Baeck college London.
Rabbi Lionel Blue is known to millions through his broadcasts on BBC Radio. Many others know him for his numerous TV appearances (including the series ‘In Search Of Holy England’ which he scripted and presented in 1989)and his books, among them Bolts from the Blue, Kitchen Blues and “How to get up when life gets you down”. A warm and inspiring speaker, Rabbi Blue presents an ‘an evening with…’ style of entertainment, using his own experiences and offbeat sense of humour. He tells a selection of stories, incidents and conversations whose dotty inconsequential flavour will appeal to people from all religions, and from none! He's thoughtful and funny, mixing humour with humility, compassion with common sense. He talks about the people he has known with affection and about himself with a delicious sense of the ridiculous.Rabbi Lionel Blue - an honour to listen to, he will leave your audience thoroughly entertained and uplifted.
