Michael Caine was born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite on 14th March 1933 in Bermondsey, London. His father was a fish-porter at Billingsgate and his mother was a charwoman. He spent many years as a struggling small-part actor in a variety of media and along the way ditched the embarrassment of his surname in favour of the name Caine By the time he was 31 he was a millionaire. One of Englands busiest actors a true world star he became famous with his portrayal of bespectacled Harry Palmer in the first of a trilogy of Len Deighton spy thrillers. Most notably known for films such as Alfie, The Black Windmill, Educating Rita and many more, Micael Caine has consistently demonstrated the actors’ art in many varied roles. Awarded the CBE in 1993 he is a simply charismatic speaker and centre of attention at any event.
