After Dinner Speakers: Julian Clary, Sue Lawley, Tony Banks

Julian Clary is best known for his camp television compering in outrageous costumes and his endless stream of sexual double entendres and puns. He started his career on the London circuit as “ Gillian Pie-Face” wearing a kaftan, beads and a wig. But debut television appearance was on Channel 4 in Cabaret at the Jongleurs in 1988 as “The Joan Collins Fan Club” with Fanny the Wonder dog. His career really took a leap in 1993 when became the compere of the British Comedy Awards where a sexual joke involving Norman Lamont, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, received uproarious laughter. After a short stint in Australia, he returned to Britain in 1995 and took up acting. Some of the television series he has been in are ‘All Rise for Julian Clary’ in 1996, and the game show, ‘It’sonly TV but I Like It’ in 1999. Julian makes a very entertaining host.
