Jef Bezos is best known for masterminding and setting up Amazon in 1994. Having joined FITEL, a hi-tec start-up company after college, he joined the Bankers Trust Company in 1988, which led to the development of Asset management computer systems, before becoming their vice-president in 1990. Having moved to DE Shaw and Co in 1992, he left to start up Amazon in 1994. He was voted as Time magazine's person of the year in 1999, by which time, Amazon shares had inflated from $18 in 1997 to more than $100 a share. A charming, self-deprecating man who often refers to himself as a nerd, he is an ideal speaker on internet start-ups, and any dot-com related issues.
