After Dinner Speakers: James Burke, Rich Hall, Michaela Strachan
James Burke was born in 1936. After graduating from Jesus College, Oxford, he taught in Bologna and Rome and worked as an interpreter and translator. Since 1965 he has been writing, producing and presenting television programmes on current affairs and science. After starting with BBC televisions Tomorrow's World, he became the BBC's chief correspondent for the NASA Apollo missions.
In 1972 he began his own weekly television series, The Burke Special. In 1978 came Connections, the prize-winning 10-part history of innovation, which has been broadcast in over fifty countries. This was followed in 1980 by a 6-part series on perception, The Real Thing, so far seen in fifteen countries.
For his television achievements James Burke has received the Royal Television Society silver and gold medals, and several American television awards.
James Burke is an enormously enthusiastic presenter of science; his talks and presentations fascinate audiences worldwide.
