John Young Stewart to give him his full name was born on 11th June 1939 and became involved with cars at the family business, in Dumbarton, where he worked as an apprentice mechanic. He first competed in 1953, but stopped soon after to concentrate on shooting, he just missed the 1960 Olympic team. In 1964 he won his first race at Snetterton and joined BRM in 1965 winning his first race that year. Jackie joined Tyrell in 1969 and went on to win the world championship 3 times. Throughout his career he was a leading safety campaigner, a role he continued through his role as owner at Stewart Racing and later in partnership with Ford. Gaining 27 wins from 99 races Jackie Stewart is the one of the world’s most successful drivers, he has a fascinating story to tell from the high-octane world of motor sport.
