Edward Irving Koch was born in the Bronx on December 12, 1924. He served as the 105th Mayor of New York City for three terms from 1978 to 1989,one of only three mayors in the city’s history to be elected to three terms. In 1989, he ran for a fourth term as Mayor and was defeated by David Dinkins in the Democratic primary. Prior to being Mayor, Koch served for nine years(1968-1977) as a Congressman and for two years as a member of the New York City Council.Ed Koch is perhaps best known for his recent tenure presiding over the popular television show The People’s Court or perhaps as also a author of 12 fiction and nonfiction books and a columnist for Newsday.
