After Dinner Speakers: David Bailey, Nanette Newman, Talking Heads

David Bailey's revolutionary fame lies in his photographic creations images that move effortlessly from fashion photos for Vogue to intimate, almost friendly portraits of celebrities and rock stars to street photography. Brought up in Londons East end David struggled at school with dyslexia and says he preferred being top of the silly class to being bottom of the clever class. Being dyslexic pushed him into doing things like painting and photography, learning to take and develop pictures at the age of 10. Culturally influenced by 40s Hollywood he spent most nights in his very early years in Londons air raid shelters. Prior to his iconic success with photography he was a carpet salesman, a shoe salesman, a window-dresser, a copyboy for the Yorkshire Post, a runner for 20th Century Fox. and a bad-debt collector. One of the best observers of 20th century events, he has a fascinating story to tell.
