After Dinner Speakers: Damon Hill, Michael Ancram, Neville Bain
Born the son of twice F1 World Champion Graham Hill, Damon Hill did not quite have the easy route into the premiere motor racing genre that many might imagine. Earning a living as a dispatch rider while establishing oneself in motorbike racing is far from the ideal grounding for a future Formula 1 racer, but this is the route the young DH took.
Narrowly defeated by Michael Schumaker in 1995 to what some believe to be shameful tactics, Damon avoided Michael’s attempt to run his Williams Renault car off the road the following year and was crowned World Champion.
Eventually disillusioned, Damon finally retired whilst with Jordan, having driven the car for their first Grand Prix victory.
His record states that he scored 22 race wins, 19 pole positions and in 1996, the Formula 1 World Championship. The story of this amazing career is a simply enthralling experience.
