After Dinner Speakers: Angela Rippon, Jim Maxmin, Ronan Keating
Angela has one of the best-known faces and voices in British broadcasting. While her work is mainly centred around her love of News and Current affairs, she is equally comfortable presenting programmes in a lighter vein, ranging from arts to quiz, and is probably best remembered for her commentary of the entertainment programme “Come Dancing.” Trained as a journalist, she joined the BBC in 1973 to be appointed as the first woman journalist newsreader in 1975. In 1982, she became a founder member of the commercial breakfast service TV-AM before moving to America. Currently working for the BBC’s Watchdog unit on both Healthcheck and Face Value, she also regularly reports for the Holiday Programme. Among her many awards, Angela won Television Personality of the Year in1977, received an Emmy Award in 1984 and more recently was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities in 1994. Angela is a popular awards and concert host as well as after dinner speaker.
