Amanda was born on 8th January 1957 in Ballougry, Co. Derry, Northern Ireland.
After drama school, Amanda landed her first role in Brookside. Four years on the soap established her TV career and she went on to a variety of parts in drama. She received the title of Most Popular Actress in the TV Quick Awards for her role as tough medic Sam Ryan in Silent Witness.
She is married to photographer, Sven Arnstein. They have two children, Phoebe (born 1989) and Brid (born 1991).
