Minter (right) was a polished southpaw with a nasty tendency to cut - seven of his defeats were a result of that flaw. His finest moment came on 16 March in 1980 when he outpointed another bleeder, Vito Antuofermo in Las Vegas. Six months later, he was destroyed by Marvellous Marvin Hagler in London on a night when hooligans threw bottles into the ring in a disgraceful spectacle.
