After Dinner Speakers: Tim Foster, Gil Scott Heron, Justin Timberlake
Tim began rowing at Bedford Modern School and became the first British junior to win two gold medals at successive World Junior Championships. The first was in the coxless four in 1987 and the second, the following year, in a coxless pair with Matthew Pinsent.
Tim began 1993 in a coxless four but he was forced out by a serious back injury which required major surgery. It was a tribute to his determination that he was back in action for the 1994 season where he joined Rupert Obholzer and the Searle brothers in a coxless four. They realised immediately that the unit had great potential and began their build-up to the 1996 Olympics with a bronze medal at the World Championships in Indianapolis. The following year they improved on this with a World Championship silver medal only a few feet behind the Italian gold medallists.
Tim arrived at his second Olympic Games as a serious medal contender. The four progressed through the first rounds of the regatta in fine style and were raring to go in the final.
Tim still lives in Oxford. His dream is to score a goal in the F.A. Cup Final and believes that the recent dip in Tottenham Hotspur's fortunes is because he has yet to receive the call-up.
