Richard began his career as a journalist on local papers in Essex and East London. At 19, he went north to BBC Radio Cumbria as a news producer, and presented news and feature programmes before joining Border Television as a reporter/presenter in 1978. In 1980, Richard moved to Yorkshire Television where he reported and presented on the popular “Calendar” and other regional Yorkshire Television programmes. In 1982, he was invited by Granada to anchor “Granada Reports”, the nightly news programme which he co-presented with Judy Finnigan-a relationship which ended in marriage. Richard is now best known for presenting the immensely popular morning network programme This Morning, alongside his wife, which is now in its thirteenth series. Other collaborative successes with Judy have been Get a Life and the evening chat show Tonight with Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan on Granada. Most recently, Richard collaborated with Judy when they hosted the British Soap Awards on Carlton Television. Richard has also previously been seen on the network presenting the adult series of Connections and also hosted the morning quiz show Runway. Richard’s most recent solo success has been presenter of Eye of the Storm. Being Britain’s favourite television couple, Richard and Judy are popular celebrity guests: appearances have included So Graham Norton, ITV Chef of The Year, Lily Live, the Priory, and TFI Friday.
