Pete Sampras is the most successful player of the modern era especially at his favourite tournament, Wimbledon. His special combination of skill, determination and consistency has won the admiration of both fans and fellow professionals. Born in 1971, the third son of Greek immigrants, Pete showed outstanding athletic ability from an early age. Pete entered the professional game as a 16 tear old qualifier and had a game complimented as being dangerous by fellow competitors.
Winning his first of thirteen Grand Slams in 1990, his career tournament victories total an impressive half-century. His domination of the men’s game in the early 1990s and his serving of 1000 aces in the 1993 season earned him the nickname Pistol Pete.
A regular member of the American Davis Cup Team, Pete Sampras is a true world superstar.
