WINNER OF THE 'NEWSREADER OF THE YEAR' AWARD AT THE 2002 TRIC AWARDS
Mary Nightingale is one of ITN’s prestigious news casters, currently reading the lunchtime and early evening news.
Mary was taken to the nation’s heart as the anchor/presenter of ITV’s flagship WISH YOU WERE HERE...? (1999-2001) Mary was already well-loved by Londoners as the co-presenter, with Alastair Stewart, of London News Network’s flagship news and features programme, LONDON TONIGHT, and as the sole presenter of LONDON TODAY, Carlton’s lunchtime magazine programme. Mary has also been a guest anchor on BBC 2's HOLIDAY PROGRAMME and the Celebrity Interviewer on DREAMING ALOUD Classic FM.
Mary presented BBC 2’s SKI SUNDAY and OFF PISTE, for BBC Radio 5 Live, THE REALLY GOOD FOOD SHOW, I-SPY, and MOST WANTED. She presented FIND YOUR FAMILY on Carlton and in November 2000 presented RATRAP for the ITV Network. Mary recently presented THE CARLTON RESTAURANT for the third year, subsequently broadcast on TV.
In August 1999 Mary anchored the eclipse on Discovery Europe; 14 hours of live broadcasting from around the world. Mary was co-presenter of CARLTON COUNTRY, a factual series about life in the countryside and ITV’s RUGBY WORLD CUP coverage in 1995 found Mary in South Africa working as a co-presenter. In the same year she presented ITN’s WORLD NEWS WEEKENDS.
Mary has presented a wide range of other programmes including Carlton’s AFTER FIVE, BBC Radio 5 Live's RUSCOE ON FIVE (in Sybil Ruscoe’s absence) and also read the news two days a week.
In 1994 Mary worked for Reuters Financial Television as a presenter on the early morning financial programme transmitted to city dealers at their desks, and on bulletins issued throughout the day. Mary also presented and wrote for WORLD BUSINESS REPORT for BBC World Service Television, a twice daily live business programme with a strong emphasis on international, economic and corporate news, including interviews with analysts, economists and business, plus regular live two-way links with overseas correspondents. From 1990-93 Mary wrote and presented WORLD BUSINESS SATELLITE for TV Tokyo – a live daily business bulletin including interviews, outside broadcasts and reports.
Prior to embarking on a television career Mary was a Eurobond Dealer and Salesperson from 1986-1990, initially at the Bank of America International and then Tokai International, dealing with European Banks and Investment Funds.
