After Dinner Speakers: Kelly Holmes, The Foundations, Martine McCutcheon
Holmes was one of the top young runners in Britain in the mid 1980’s, winning the English schools Junior 1500m title in 1984 and competing as a junior international in 1977. After time out in the army for four years, Kelly returned to the track in 1992 and broke into world class in1993. In 1994 she won the Commonwealth title, the European cup and a series of wins in the international races. An English record - 1:57.56 for 800m - to win the AAA title gave her every hope for the future. Her other best times include: 400m – 54.7 (1994), 1000m – 2:37.29 (1993), 3000m – 9:07.7 (1995). Kelly is also a physical training instructor, an army judo champion, and an army volleyball team member. She is an excellent after-dinner motivational speaker on all sports-related subjects.
