Judy was born in Manchester and acquired an English and Drama BA Hons at Bristol University. She joined Granada TV as a researcher in 1971 and in 1973 she left to spend a working holiday in America.Judy returned to television in 1974 to take her first screen job as Anglia Television’s first female reporter.She rejoined Granada in 1980 and worked on a range of live programmes including Flying Start, Scramble and Granada Reports, which she co-presented with Richard Madeley – a relationship which ended in marriage.In October 1988 Judy and her husband Richard recorded their first programme of This Morning – which they are still presenting today.
In 1992 the Richard and Judy Show appeared on our screens at prime time Sunday evenings. This proved as much of a success as their daytime show. In 1995 ITV commissioned Get A Life a show for Granada, which Judy presented with her husband.Judy also presented Granada TV’s Coronation Street specials and completed two series of the Judy Finnigan Debate.In May 1998 Judy presented the prime time consumer show We C an Work It Out. Judy’s most recent collaboration with Richard wasin May 2000, when they hosted The British Soap Awards and in July she presented Find Your Family, both for Carlton Television.Being Britain’s favourite television couple, Richard and Judy are popular celebrity guests, appearances have included, So Graham Norton, ITV Chef of The Year, and this year Lily Live, The Priory and TFI Friday.Judy has gone from strength to strength as one of Britain’s most popular female presenters, as well as being mother to four children.
