Juan is only the second driver in the history of F1 to hail from the country of Colombia, and definitely seems to be its best contender yet (not to knock Roberto Guerrero). He excelled in the lower formulae in Colombia, and his dominance prompted him to try his luck in Europe in 1995. While in Europe, he moved from Formula Vauxhall to International Formula 3000 Champion and F1 test driver in just three years. After his great success in Formula 3000, he went to America on lone from Williams to compete for Chip Gannasi in the CART series, where he dominated his first year, becoming the first CART rookie ever to win the championship. In 2000 there was less success, but did manage to win the infamous Indy 500 race.
