After Dinner Speakers: John Torode, Sarah Whatmore, Eve Pollard
Australian John Torode left Sydney seven years ago and since moving to the UK he has taken the restaurant world by storm and built a reputation as one of the hottest young chefs around. He met his British wife Angie in 1990 and in the same year they got married and moved to London. He joined the Conran empire in 1992, starting at Pont de la Tour, moving to Quaglino’s as the Sous chef and was then chosen to head up Mezzo, which at the time of launch was Europe’s largest and most ambitious restaurant.Never one to rest on his laurels, after three years at Mezzo, he wanted a new challenge and set to revitalising the newly opened Bluebird restaurant on the Kings Road, including the private club, café and foodstore. John's latest venture is 'Smiths' of Smithfield in London which is opening in early 2000 and looks set to be one of the most exciting restaurants around. John is looking forward to using fresh produce from Smithfield Market to create simple and delicious 'home cooking' with his trademark twist, offering from greasy spoon to the best of British cooking. So it's no surprise that John rose to the challenge of cooking sensational dinners live every Monday on This Morning.Since joining This Morning, TV Times has voted him one of the hottest men in the kitchen. He has been deluged with fan letters, from admiring fans and one viewer has actually phoned in to say that she can't stop dreaming about him. John lives with his wife and their two children in London.
