Chelsea broke the bank in June 2000 to sign the player they had tried to capture from Leeds a year before. Hasselbaink's transfer fee broke Chelsea's record and equalled the £15m fee paid by Newcastle United for Alan Shearer.
Hasselbaink, known as Gerald in his native Holland is a fiery forward who relies heavily on his power and pace to terrorise the opposition. He is also an intelligent linkman, although much of his work is overshadowed by his prolific scoring rate. He clinched the Premierships golden boot in a Chelsea shirt in the 2000.01 season.
Jimmy has played a number of internationals for Holland and retains a regular place in the squad; his performances at Chelsea have kept him in the Dutch frame
