Janet Street Porter was born on 27 December 1946, educated at Lady Margaret Girl's School, and the Architectural Association. She got her first job writing for Petticoat magazine in 1968 and then moved to the Daily Mail and London Evening Standard
She progressed to presenting; devising and producing shows for London Weekend Television including the Six O'clock Show. and was BBC Head of Youth and Entertainment Features. She spent a brief period as managing director of cable channel Live TV for the Mirror Group and co-founded independent production company Screaming Productions in 1996, before being made editor of the Independent of Sunday in 1999.
Janet Street-Porter lives London, and has a house in the North Yorkshire valley of Nidderdale. A keen walker, she is the vice-president of the Rambler's Association. Always with much to say on media and of course walking.
