After Dinner Speakers: Jan Leeming, Marie Helvin, Marc Freden
Jan Leeming, is known for her work with the BBC as a newsreader. She started her carrier as an announcer for Westward Television in 1965 and stayed for about a year before pursuing her career on larger ITV stations, such as Granada, HTV West, and then BBC News, where she was one of the main newsreaders in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Other television jobs were as presenter on BBC Children's TV's Tom Tom in 1970, BBC TV's Pebble Mill at One from 1976-1978 and BBC Radio 2 announcer in 1980. One of her most notable appearances was on BBC TV news on Bank Holiday Monday in May 1980, when the longest News Flash occurred when the SAS ended the Iranian Embassy siege.
