After Dinner Speakers: Helen Sharman, Jo Guest, Les Bubb
Helen Sharman is Britain's first astronaut. Born in Sheffield on 30 May 1963 her first job was with GEC in London, making monitors, she then went to Mars Confectionery, discovering quicker ways to make ice cream and chocolate.
Hearing a radio advert one night she applied to become an astronaught. After years of training and learning Russian she was accepted onto the program and launched into space on 18 May 1991. With her cosmonaught colleagues Artsebarsky and Krikalev she orbited earth and docked with the Mir Space station spending a total of 8 days in space.
Still a fan of science Helen is an experienced speaker and presenter of science topics and is a wonderfully unique personality to have at any event.
