He has achieved every honour humanly possible in the umpiring world and is regarded internationally for his contribution to cricket. Born on 19th April 1933 in Barnsley he played for Yorkshire and Leicestershire, from 1956 to 1964, scoring 3,314 runs in 94 matches. In 1977 he was voted Yorkshire Personality of the Year and Yorkshireman of the Year in 1996. In 1986 was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and received an MBE from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in her Birthday Honours List.
Dickie is the author of three best selling books, ‘Not Out’, ‘That’s Out’ and ‘From the Pavillion End’, his book entitled ‘Dickie Bird my autobiography’ is currently the best selling sports biography in history.
