After Dinner Speakers: Debbie Greenwood, Simon Cowell, John Bruton

Debbie Greenwood is one of the city's famous pageant winners - and launched her TV career after winning the Miss Great Britain title in 1980. But today, although she remembers the contests fondly, she will not be encouraging her daughters Annalie, eight, and Luisa, five, to follow in her footsteps. Debbie, now 46, was working as an advertising executive when she entered her first competition in July 1979 to become Miss Liverpool. After going on to become Miss Great Britain, at a televised ceremony from London's Waldorf Hotel, Debbie took over from Russell Grant and Selina Scott on BBC's Breakfast Time.
