After Dinner Speakers: Bob Mortimer, Oonagh McDonald, Ally McCoist
One half of the 'Vic 'n' Bob' partnership, Bob Mortimer was born in Middlesbrough. At school, Bob was a pretty good kid and was also captain of the school football team. His love of the game continued for years to come, with Bob playing for Middlesbrough Boys and also becoming captain of his University team. Unfortunately, Bob was struck down with Rhumatoid Arthritis, which put an end to his playing days, although he does still appear in the odd charity match, and follows his beloved Middlesbrough FC whenever he can. The man, obviously, has damn good taste!
After University, Bob ended up as a solicitor and it was during this time that he met Darlington born Vic Reeves. He saw Vics act and got on with him really well. His bosses at the solicitors allowed Bob two and a half months leave to write and record the first series of their TV show, presumably with the option of returning, should it all turn sour.
Well, turn sour it certainly didn't. Vic 'n' Bob became overnight cult heroes with their TV show, 'Vic Reeves Big Night Out'. Continued success led to more and more TV work and a host of series'. Big Night Out, The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer and the hilarious TV game show, Shooting Stars all propelled bob into the mainstream. On top of that, Bob recently appeared in his first 'acting' role, with his appearance as Hopkirk in the TV remake of the old TV show, Randell & Hopkirk (deceased). Alongside him, as Hopkirk, was none other than his ever present partner, Vic Reeves.
Bob now lives 'darn sarf' in Kent, close to his closest friend, Vic. He lives there with his girlfriend, Lisa Matthews and their two sons, Harry and Thomas.
With the pairs popularity continually growing and with constant comparisons being made between them and probably the best comedy duo ever, Morcambe and Wise, it looks like Bob Mortimer will be a face that will be seen on our TV screen for a long time to come.
