Andrew Sachs is best known for playing the Spanish waiter Manuel in Faulty Towers opposite the wacky maniac Basil Faulty, played by John Cleese; but when you hear a smooth voiceover on a wildlife documentary the chances are it’s him. He speaks beautifully and very precisely and puts this down to having to learn English when he arrived here from Germany at the age of eight, having escaped from Nazi Germany. Andrew Sachs has presented commentaries for dozens of television documentaries, but insists that not much of it sinks in until he watches it at home.
