After Dinner Speakers: Alan Bates, Jenny Pitman, Phil Cool

Alan Bates was born in Derbyshire and educated in his craft at the London Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He made his stage debut in 1955 and in the West End in 1956. His big break came in Look Back in Anger. His film roles include playing alongside Laurence Olivier in the Entertainer, Whistle Down the Wind, as a working-class dreamer in A Kind of Loving Most famously known for his outstanding performances in Zorba the Greek, Far From the Madding Crowd and an infamous wrestling session with Oliver Reed in Women in Love In 1995 Alan was awarded the CBE and continues to perform regularly. One of England’s finest and most popular character actors Alan Bates is a wonderfully experienced and entertaining speaker.
